FAQ

WHY HEART FOR ART?

We put our heart and soul into each piece, making sure our work runs along side our core values. You can expect talented artists whose trade is their second nature. This is a tattoo studio like no other, boasting a welcoming optimism in an antique setting. It’s truly our pleasure to have you here while one of our artists tattoos your skin. Plus limitless cups of tea and popcorn! Enough said!

WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FROM ME AS A CLIENT?

Please be aware we have clients each day so we aren’t always readily available for a chat. When your time comes we are all for YOU! Our artist work in different ways, some draw the design first and send it prior to the appointment. Others prefer to design on the day while you are here. Please respect each of our Artists methods of working, they are tried and tested. We need you to have some idea and direction with what you want. You must be willing to join our waiting list and pay the prices that reflect the quality of our work. We hope you aren’t influenced by others opinions and just want to follow trends. Please don’t drink the night before and we will not tattoo anyone under the influence of drink or drugs, under age or pregnant. Finally we will not add cremated ashes into our inks, we know this can be a very touchy subject, but in simple terms, it’s unsanitary.

HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO GET A TATTOO IN THE UK?

UK law states you must be 18 years of age to get a tattoo in a registered Studio. Please be aware of any Tattooist breaching this law as there will be a reason they are desperate for work. Usually as their work is of a very low standard and/or the property is not health registered and therefore uninsured.

HOW LONG WILL MY TATTOO TAKE TO HEAL?

Depending on the nature of the tattoo, individual skin type and the quality of care taken by the individual, it can take between 5 – 10 days. Underneath the tattoo can take 3 months to fully heal. You will notice a glossy shine for the first few months. Once healed it has a matte finish.

DO YOU TAKE WALKS INS?

We don’t always have time, but we love to accommodate walk-ins when we can! You can stop in anytime, or call the studio to check our availability.

HOW MUCH IS MY TATTOO GOING TO COST?

Tattoo pricing varies based on a multitude of factors including size, detail, subject matter etc. Our minimum charge is £50. Our artists charge between £60-90/hour so ultimately pricing just depends on how long the tattoo takes. You can set up a free 30 minute consultation anytime if you’d like to get a more specific idea of how much your custom tattoo will cost!

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO PREPARE FOR MY TATTOO?

Do not drink alcohol the night before a tattoo! In simple terms, alcohol ‘thins your blood’ and helps prevent the build up of clots, which makes you bleed more, making the whole experience unpleasant for both you and the Artist. In most occasions appointments will have to be rescheduled. Make sure you get a good night of sleep before you get tattooed, and eat a good meal before you come in. Getting tattooed while tired, ill or hungry is not a great idea. Comfortable clothes are a plus! Make sure you wear clothes that leave the area you’re getting tattooed easily accessible. Please be aware some ink may get on your clothes so don’t wear your Sunday bests!

WHAT SHOULD I BRING WITH ME?

Mostly importantly A GOVERNMENT ISSUED VALID ID (passport or driving license). The second most important thing is a method of payment. We can do cash, credit or debit (card charges apply and vary). No personal cheques and no American Express. Although our artists are very conversational, we also recommend you bring things to keep you busy, happy and distracted. Laptops, iPods, iPads, books, etc are great ideas. Lastly, if you’re sitting for a long session, snacks are good to have handy. There is a local café that can deliver, but it’s good to have something (usually sugary) to quickly eat.

I EMAILED AN ARTIST, BUT HAVEN’T HEARD BACK. WHY?

The way our system works is once we receive an email with your preferences and ideas, the most suitable artist is allocated the work. Our artists are often tattooing and/or drawing for 8-10 hours a day and also preparing for the next day. This doesn’t always leave a lot of time for emails. Please don’t take it personally they’re just busy. Luckily we have a diligent front desk staff that check emails everyday. If you email the studio, you should get a response within 24-48 hours. If you call during business hours we can help right away! You don’t need to talk to an artists before calling, the front desk staff can help you with just about everything you need to know!

HOW DO I LOOK AFTER MY TATTOO OVER THE YEARS?

Our best advice for long-term quality tattoos is to regularly exfoliate and moisturise your tattoo, using chemical-free products. We sell a 100% natural product at the studio. When the skin is very dry, the layer of dead skin cells get thicker and visually obscures your tattoo. The sun is the #1 enemy of a new tattoo. As difficult as this may be in the warmer months, please keep your new tattoo completely out of the sun for 6 weeks. After this we recommend using the highest factor sunscreen if your tattoo is in any direct sunlight. Do some research and only use natural chemical free sun-block to keep your skin healthy. You’ve paid good money for it, so why not keep it sharp?!
